2023 May

Present:  Please see electronic sign in sheet

Welcome: President Joanna Pettas called the meeting to order at 6:07pm. She welcomed the attendees and directed them to the electronic meeting sign in. She then introduced our new Head Basketball Coach, Coach Eric Swanson.

Coaches Report: After a brief introduction, Coach Swanson discussed a priority of the upcoming season will be to find ways to promote a sense of family and togetherness. In fact, Coach would like to have a fun, family summer BBQ in late July. Please let Coach know if you are willing or able to host such an event.

Coach let everyone know he, and the entire coaching staff, is dedicated to our children. He recognizes the commitment and sacrifices that our coaches make, but also those sacrifices that our parents and families make. He asked the group to keep all communication with the coaches respectful and asked us to follow the chain of command if an issue did arise. Coach Swanson would like to be aware of any issues before it is escalated to campus or AISD leadership.

During the season there will be ample opportunity for volunteers to help our coaches with the work they do. This will include items like clock/ scoreboard management and other gameday administrative roles. There will also be opportunities for parents to gather on gamedays typically before Varsity games. Building the sense of family should extend beyond just the players in the program. Our goal is to pack the stands with students for both home and away games. Another idea, to boost the idea of family, is to consider home-cooked meals for pre-game nutrition and team building.

Program leadership is currently examining the budget to make sure we are using our money effectively for our student athletes. We have found a good deal on some shooting machines, and are close to being able to make this purchase.

Monday, June 22 will be a team building Bowling event. Summer training will start June 5 th . Training is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday evening from 5-6pm. Summer training will be open to parents. There will also be alumni present for occasional scrimmages. Please make sure you sign up for Coach Mo’s Strength and Conditioning, the deadline is this Friday. Grades 10-12 will have shooting in the gym directly after Mo’s. Incoming freshman will start with the gym at 8:30 and then go to Mo’s after.

Men’s Basketball camp is scheduled for July 10-14. There are currently 110 registered kids. We will need volunteers from both students and parents to make this event run smoothly. Watch for volunteer sign ups in the near future.

Summer will also include some team tournaments for the returning players.

June 16,17,18 GASO Tournament in Round Rock, 3 teams

June 22-24 TABC in Duncanville, 2 “Varsity-type” groups

November 16,17,18 LaHoya, TX, Varsity only, looking for JV and Freshman tournament,

Our social media chair will be Karen Case, and the website lead will be Morgan McReynolds.

September will be our next full board meeting.

Summer Camp starting: July 10th  thru 13th

Booster Club Report: President Joanna Pettas thanked coach Swanson and thanked everyone who was able to make it to the 5280 event. The search continues for a new assistant coach but that will also depend on the academic positions available.

In evaluating the ending year budget, there is an overage in the account. This is in part to not redoing the gym floors as a new gym might be supported in the new bond proposal. Coach Swanson is looking into shooting machines and a possible new digital score table. We want to spend money on valuable enhancements for our program.

Budget Report: Treasurer Jeremy Williford presented current and proposed budget for 2022-2023. Minor adjustments for new budget were made to a few categories, with the most significant increase being in added nutrition. The year ended with $20,000 in excess due reduced large expenditures (new gym flooring) and successful fundraising and merchandise sales. The goal is to leave between 10-15 for the following year. Jeremy was open to meeting with anyone who had questions or just wanted to look deeper into the financial records.

Motion to approve new budget made by Susan Buie and seconded by Kim Jowers. Motion to approve was granted.

Booster Club Report Continued with New Business: Joanna presented a QR code where new parents can sign up for newsletters and other communication. Please sign up if you haven’t already.

Karen Case is doing social media but will need help with Varsity pictures and videos. Spirit-wear still needs a coordinator for orders and distribution, but design is complete. We are looking for someone to help with concessions and JV banquet. Beth Perkins will be the lead for the Anderson Classic tournament. We will also be looking for Summer Camp volunteers from both parents and students. Please let Joanna know where you can help. Sponsorships chairs, Paul and Greg, need your help with contacts and ideas. Please reach out to them if you can help with sponsorships.
